Subject: Cards, Michael Crawford, etc.
Since it seems to be a good idea, on Monday I'll start collecting addresses. (Please don't e-mail me before then, as my company is switching its e-mail platform this weekend.)
As far as get-togethers go, one way we could "share" them is to take lots of pictures & maybe put them on the website. They have websites devoted to hacker "cons" & sci-fi "cons"--why not our Roddy "cons?" It would be really cool if we could get the t-shirts & have everyone pose in them.
Someone already talked about Michael Crawford, but if you want to see him in the movies, check out "Hello Dolly." A very young Michael plays Cornelius (ooh, there's a connection to Roddy), so don't take that as representative of Michael now. When he first hit in "Phantom," I couldn't believe they were the same person. He DEFINITELY has matured well! Also, if you're a skating fan, he helped Torvill & Dean with their "Barnum" skating routine. He was starring in the London production of "Barnum," & they asked him for assistance in choreographing it. There's a Torvill & Dean video that shows them winning the world championships with that number, & Michael is in the booth with them as the scores are announced.
In addition to Michael, I'm comforting myself after Roddy's death with Sam Neill & Alan Rickman. I watch "Sense & Sensibility" a lot, & the new MCI commercials with Sam are great. Being a loud, uncouth American, I guess I just have a thing for polite, somewhat repressed Brits. (I know, I know, Sam's a Kiwi, but that's close.)

Subject: Re: Flood/Thief of Bagdad/Fantastic Journey
As I have mentioned before, FLOOD was filmed partly in my home town in Oregon. I saw it being filmed.(but Roddy wasn't there for those scenes). It was a TV movie by Aaron Spelling, a disaster flick about a small town flooding and no one cares. Roddy is only in the beginning for about 3 minutes, a fisherman going to fish in the lake that is dammed up and will eventually flood out. (but for any of you who have seen it, I sat many an afternoon on that bridge that gets blown up, dreaming about- you know who)

Subject: Miscell. Roddy
Since I seem to be the only one who has both the 'unauthorized' bio and 'The Films of..' I will take them both to work today and photocopy them. But I still have no way to scan. If someone who does and has a fax line will send me their fax number I will pass the pages along. Most of both books are photos, but in the back of the second one is a listing of his films, up to 1975 and info like other cast members, running time, etc. And as I said, I wrote the publishers and asked for an updated edition.
Going back to the Neptune Society thing, if you think back to the interviews Roddy did re the 'Apes' films, when asked about the make-up he usually admitted being uncomfortable because he was somewhat clausterphobic. Maybe the idea of the ultimite confined space didn't appeal to him. Just a thought.
Also, since this is "National Bosses Day", I want to nominate mine for first prize. I really don't have a way to get anything printed from the computer I am using. There have been several of the e-mail, mostly the obits, I wanted copied. Knowing that sometimes a person just doesn't understand how much an entertainer really means to you I was a little hesitant to do it, but I went to her and told her about Roddy and how much he meant and the articles and asked if I could forward them to her office for printing. She was completely understanding and said I was welcome to do it and told me how sorry she was about his death. The Thursday his A&E Bio was shown I had to work. I had set my VCR to tape it and planned on watching and taping (as a back-up) the midnight showing. But as with the best laid plans of mice and men, about 10:30 p.m. I tripped and fell. I couldn't put any weight on my left knee and it hurt like crazy, the consenus was I needed a x-ray. Because of the small staff size no one could leave to take me to the ER and I couldn't find anyone else to do it. Someone called her and she came over, took me to the ER, stayed with me and then took me home. Luckily, there was no damage to the knee. As I lay on the exam table, despite the pain in my knee I was thinking of how ironic it was that I was missing the midnight showing because part of why I fell in the first place was that I was thinking about watching/taping it with anticipation instead of paying attention to where I was going. Of course, I didn't tell her that part of the story...I didn't want to push my luck., ha-ha Anyway, she is a cut above the other people I have worked for...So, Kitty Pizzola, Happy Bosses Day!!!

Thanks for showing that article written by the Hollywood Reporter. People who don't recognize Roddy's value as we do can't read such a thing and not be moved. Got the old water works running again. You sure have a nack for finding things.
I was looking for that page on* Fantasy Island* because someone said they loved his character on it. Unfortunately when I typed in Fantasy Island my surf landed me in a site I wouldn't ordinarily visit. Help! What was that page again? I'm afraid to venture!

Hey Tam,
Here's a brain twister for you. Watch a film called *The Silencers*. The friendly alien is played by an actor named Dennis Christopher. He can't act very well and is certainly no Roddy > but he looks so much like him that it's almost eerie. In fact...I was so convinced they had to be related I was writing Roddy a letter about it. I thought that perhaps Roddy's sister had a son. Only for some reason at the time I could not remember Virginia's name. That was on October 3rd. I had no idea that Roddy had passed away that morning. That is until I ran into a page on the net that had his obituary posted. I still have the half written letter in my computer. I don't have the heart to trash it.
But check it, Dennis sounds like him too. His voice, accent, facial expressions and all the characteristics of our Roddy. My daughter even thought Dennis was Roddy at first. Of course she couldn't believe he grew his hair so long. (Blonde too). It's not a bad film. It is a *B* title though. And even though Dennis looks like Roddy he is by no means close to our favorite guy!
It doesn't mean that Dennis is his son. He could be a nephew. Maybe he is not related at all. But you should see this guy. I bought the movie only because Dennis reminded me of Roddy. It's definately noticable.

Lorraine, yeah, you're right, he deserves a note too. The best friends are the ones who hold your hand in the end. The People article mentioned a friend Dennis Osborne. Could that be him? I have no idea where to write though. Liz does seem to be getting of most sympathy, although Roddy was probably the only good guy in her life. What will she do without him?
Anyway Tam,with this Pa/Ohio thing, do you think we could get some of Roddy's DNA and test everyone? Maybe it's true! If it were, maybe they'd let us in to read his diaries! You never know what the government will do these days! Just a thought!(and just kidding!)

Hi Everyone,
Great work to those who wrote letters to PEOPLE. I really don't think Hollywood knew how much Mr. M. meant to "all of us". I don't mean that critically---how could they know? Hopefully, they'll know now.
I'll have my donation in the mail, 2 November. I will also, gladly, donate to flowers for 7 November.
As far as Elizabeth Taylor not being in BIOGRAPHY---wasn't it filmed sometime around May? If so, wasn't ET laid up with a fractured back? That's my guess.
Let's definetly do something for Elizabeth Taylor.
Take care, gang---

As we are all evidence of, Roddy fans do tend to start early in life!
I would like a copy of the Unauthorized Biography and the "Films of",if anyone is feeling really generous.(I'll pay for them.) I might know where I can find episodes of Fantastic Journey. I have to get hold of the person who might have them, and it might not be until next week.I'll keep you guys posted. My husband, Ken, has been wanting to find some for ages, and a friend who had a VCR very early on just occurred to me recently.Does anybody know what PLEX is? They are showing "The Defector".
I punched up Roddy on a net find thingy today and happened across some pretty strange (and stupid) conversations on a gossip group(only way to describe it.)They were talking about Roddy's death, and of course the conversation turned to the gay question. One person said they once knew someone who said they had dated Roddy's SON.They said they hadn't believed them though, because they had always thought Roddy was gay, and besides, the person had claimed that Roddy's son lived in------wait for it!--------Ohio! This cracked me up because of all of us that live in the Ohio area, and what I said before about it being due to a Boys from Brazilish genetics experiment.(Ok,they created all of us Roddy people, then they cloned a "son" for Roddy, and....It was all supposed to create a new Master Race of Roddy offspring, except we never found the "son",see...) I hope you people know I'm kidding...)

Thanks Paul. This seems to be the address for Liz. I asked at two of the webpages for her and got the same address both times. I went ahead and sent a group thank-you card from The Musgrave Foundation. I included a brief explanation of who we are and the webpage and e- mail address. Is this okay? I know I'm a newbie to the list and don't want to butt in and be too obnoxious, but I had the card and I'm one of those people who likes writing notes. My apologies if I 've been too pushy. BTW, can anyone tell me what the letter from Roddy on The Musgrave Foundation page says? It's too fuzzy and I can't read it, so naturally it's driving me crazy wanting to know . Thanks,

RODDY MCDOWALL'S PARTING GIFT
(OCT. 16) WENN - SIXTH - HOLLYWOOD, SHOWBIZ & PEOPLE NEWS - RODDY McDOWALL left a parting gift for many of his close friends - envelopes stashed with cash.
Just two weeks before he died of cancer (SEP98) withdrew more than $100,000 from his bank account and had envelopes of money delivered to people he wanted to surprise with a special "thank you".
Among those who received a windfall to the PLANET OF THE APES star were hairdressers, make-up artists and limousine drivers who had worked with him over the years.
McDowall died of cancer on October 3 (98) at the age of 70.

My husband mainly knows him from "Condor Man"(Which he really liked.) and the 60's English tv series "Some Mother's Do Have Them",where he was a goof ball in a red beret. In fact,I used to wear a little beret all the time and all my English friends kept referring to me by the name of that character(can't remember the name at the moment and Ken has just gone to work so I can't ask him.). Pamela
-----Original Message-----
I kind of feel like sending a card to Dennis Osbourne, since he seems to have been Roddy's "signifigant other",but I guess that would be presumptive. It seems like Elizabeth is getting so much sympathy and everyone is forgetting that there may have been someone who was even closer to Roddy in a way.Did anyone notice that on the Apes documentary Roddy had a new ring on? The pinky ring he always wore was on the other hand,(right instead of left.),and he was wearing a gold ring on his 'wedding ring finger'. He knew he was ill when that was filmed in August, and I just wonder if it was sort of a statement and symbol of commitment as he was going. If it was, what a romantic and sad gesture.

Well, like a lot of movies he was in, HE was good in it. The ending (and you know what I mean if you've seen it, so I won't spoil it for everyone else) was pretty darn cheesy. What's amazing in many of Roddy's pics is how one minute they have him playing an older character, but he can be made to look so young for flashbacks!(like they did in this show.) By the way, what DID they spray his hair with to make it look grey in Fright Night. Gad. Kari

Subject: Lord Love a Duck
Hey there! Are there any of you out there who would like a copy of Lord Love A Duck?(an official tape, not one taped off T.V.) Due to a misunderstanding on the part of a slow witted video store employee in the city, I now have two copies waiting for me to pick up in two separate stores. I am a Roddy fan, but I do not need two copies, thank you. What I was thinking is that if you guys go ahead with the T-shirt idea (which I know is a definite maybe), would any of you be willing to trade a T-shirt for this tape? Because as you may or may not know, my Canadian dollar is worth the outside of an oreo cookie compared to the U.S., and it is terribly expensive for me to buy anything down there. If I got a T-shirt, I'd have to send a money order, which is reeeeaaaallllyy expensive. Anyway, just a thought. Let me know if anyone's interested, and I'll go claim the second copy. (The clerks and my family are having a riot with the name of this tape. My brother took the message and wrote down "Lord of the Ducks", the clerk from the other place called it the "duck movie". Sheesh.)

As I am a practicing witch, I will attending several ritual circles around Halloween (Samhain). The tradition is to place items, prayers, photos, etc. on the altar as a memorial for those loved ones who have passed on during the year. I have a certain small picture of Roddy (the early years) that I'm going to place there. Between the spirit candle and the ceremonies, I believe all the good energies will get to the other side to him.

Hey group,
My son's mistake use a inappropriate 5 letter metophor on my screen name. Aol wouldn't allow me to receive my mail. So my son fixed the problem and is now grounded for a month on-line. Oddly enough I choose my original (918) number from what I thought to be Roddy's B-Day. I was going by my not-so-accurate biography. So it needed to be changed anyway. It's only differant by one number. So ... I don't know if anyone received my messages from yesterday. Yes, I copies it. I'm mailing all three monday morning. You ought to watch "Unknown Origin" (aka "The Alien Within"), another B movie. Well, it's a Roger Corman film so what do you expect? Near the start of the film, one of the women while passing Roddy grabs his butt. He's got first billing; the movie also stars Richard Biggs (of Babylon 5), Melanie Shatner (Bill's daughter?), and Alex Hyde-White.
As for Fright Night, he used a wig. I think I've mentioned before that I saw a behind-the-scenes docu of Fright Night in 1985. Roddy hosted it; he wasn't wearing the wig in the docu and his hair was cut real short.

If your English friends were calling you by the name of the character Michael played in "Some Mothers Do 'ave 'em," Tam, they must have been calling you Frank Spencer. Those old shows were a hoot. I envy you having seen Michael in Phantom. One thing or another kept me from getting to New York. I have, however, seen him in concert and in EFX (his show in Vegas - he once spoke to me there and I nearly fainted.) So I've been luckier in my admiration for Michael than I was with Roddy. You're right about how much he's changed over the years - but I don't care, young or old, I adore him - just like Roddy. I tell my husband that Michael is the only man I'd ever leave him for. Tam,
Silencers is a sci-fi that was released to video in 1996. It's considered a B title so a lot of video stores don't have it. Dennis is about late twenties in the film. Also starring in it was Jack Scalia, Clarence Williams, and Stephen Rowe. It's a decent movie. It's one of those *B* titles that is a treat because I had low expectations.
Keep looking!!!! You must see. I actually thought that Dennis must be Roddy's nephew because the resemblance was so striking. Looks, voice, and even mannerisms. Check it out!

PLEX is an Encore movie channel; our local TCI carries it so I was able to tape "The Defector". The movie itself is quite boring, but notable because it was Montgomery Clift's last film. Roddy, as usual, is quite good in it; he appeared at the start, a bit in the middle, and again near the ending. I believe this is the only film where he and Clift appeared in together (trivia: you can see that they're almost the same height). In one of Clift's biographies, Clift acknowledged that he wouldn't have made it through the filming if not for Roddy's moral support.

Good idea on the Osborne card. I think the card should be a combination of thankyou for being there for him in our absence & sympathy for losing your dear friend. Whether you were in a relationship with the lost or just a casual friend, it's never easy! I don't have a clue what their relationship was ... and really don't care to know. The truth is that Roddy had people around him in the end. That had to make it much more pleasant for him to know that people really cared about him. When I lost a friend to aides I was so busy trying to be strong for him that I by the time he had passed on I was drained emotionally. A card of encouragement to Ed and Liz is definitely in order.

Thanks, Lorraine, but I must decline. Remember Obi Wan Kenobi? He thought he could be as good a teacher as Yoda; his hubris gave birth to Darth Vader. My point being, I may be a good researcher, but it doesn't mean I'd be a good writer. Fiction writer, maybe, but not a biographer.
A good writer who knew Roddy personally is the only one who could do justice to his biography. This is why I suggested Dick Moore in an earlier post. Moore acted with Roddy in "Killer Shark" and "Tuna Clipper". Moore is also a published writer; he has written a book on child stars, being a former one himself. And he and Roddy had a close relationship; Roddy was godfather to Moore's son. Not to mention it was Roddy who introduced Moore to his wife, Jane Powell (you'll remember both Moore and Powell were in Roddy's A&E Biography). Moore can give more than just dry statistics, he can give insight.
So ... thanks again, but no.
Now if we can just convince Dick Moore to undertake the biography.

Paige-Marie, what a lovely idea. Since I will be at work from 3-11 p.m. that evening, how about Midnight EST, that way for the people in the midwest and west coast it will still be early. I would suggest the time of the memorial, but 10 a.m. is a little early, especially since 10 a.m. westcoast time is 6 a.m. for me. I don't think I could drink that early. Subject: odd & ends
How is the campaign coming along to get Roddy a Lifetime Achievement Award? Has everyone sent in their letter? How about one to "PEOPLE"? They might be willing to publish an open letter to Elizbeth from our group if they realize how many of us there are and how much they offended us. Not to mention it might light a fire under them to get them to do a better coverage on Roddy.
Who all is going to send a card to Dennis? I have one ready to mail. I ended up with a sort of non-specific sympathy card that says "Thinking of you" on the outside and "with a sympathy in a loss that will be felt by many" on the inside. It was that message that made me buy it. I added a seperate note and basically expressed our thanks for all he had done and our sympathy for the loss of his friend. I did not imply anything. If they were just friends, they must have been extremely close for Dennis to have devoted all that time taking care of him. And if they were more.... In either case I think he deserves our acknowledging what he did and what he must be going through. I think it would be a nice gesture if everyone in the group sent a card. I used Roddy's home address and figured on way or another he would get it.
Also, I have photocopied both the Rona Barrett bio and "The Films of..." but I still need someone who has both a fax and a scanner to send me a fax number so I can get it passed on to the group. I can fax from work, but not scan. So SOMEONE please send me a fax number. Don't assume someone else will do it.
And while we are tossing out locales for a place to gather, how about Atlanta, Ga. No, I don't live there, but it would be convienient and they certainly have the facilities if we want to do this on a big scale and bring in people from outside our own group.

Hi -
I sent this out earlier, but I think Juno ate it. Anyway, here goes:
Those of you interested in a card exchange, please e-mail me privately with your name, snailmail address (either home or business, whichever you prefer), & e-mail address. In order for overseas cards to go out in time, I need to get all names by 11/2. I'll e-mail everyone with the list on 11/5.
Note: Just to allay any safety concerns, I will only distribute the mailing list to those who sign up for it (& I promise I'll erase it after the holiday so noone gets ahold of it). I've participated in card exchanges on other lists, & I've never heard of any problems. They're really a lot of fun, & it's a great way to get LOTS of mail! I always put them up on my doors, so it really adds to the holiday spirit.
BTW: If anyone knows of charity groups that collect used cards after Christmas, please post it to the list. I always feel bad about tossing them, but I don't have space to keep them all.

Hmm... for me, that would be Coca Cola Classic, 1998, in a frosted glass, with a bendy straw. I nearly had a heart attack. I turned on my computer last night, and my brother had done something (?!!) to it to make it think I had no hard drive! Another idea is to sign up for any local dial-up internet service in your area. Check with your local chamber of commerce to see what's available. After you do, you'll get billed for that service (usually 15 to 20 bucks a month) and AOL will only charge you ten bucks a month to bounce their service through this local number. (Call them to confirm this and to get the correct billing.) You avoid all long distance phone charges this way. I am in an area with NO AOL local dial-up numbers and before I figued this out my monthly phone bill was typically over $150 a month, but this is one way to get around that, if you want to keep AOL. On the other hand, it's perfectly easy to get by on just the regular internet server w/o them. (Of course you don't usually get the five screen names and other stuff that Aol offers.)

Leading man's hero:
Charlton Heston says best parts are found in Shakespeare
Wednesday, October 21, 1998
Barbara Vancheri, Post-Gazette Staff Writer
[snip]
The actor's opinions and memories are chronicled in a new book, "Charlton Heston's Hollywood: 50 Years in American Film," written with Jean-Pierre Isbouts. The text offers snippets of Heston's journal entries about his films, along with his recollections and those of his wife of 54 years, Lydia.
[snip]
In a recent conference call with reporters, Heston fielded questions on a range of subjects. Here are some of his thoughts on:
"Planet of the Apes": "It introduced a whole new genre. This was before they made 'Star Trek' and 'Star Wars' and 'Alien' and 'Lost in Space' and all that, and the genre of the space opera was created by 'Planet of the Apes.' ... They're making films in that genre all the time and 'Planet of the Apes,' I'm happy to say, is one of the best of them."
The late Roddy McDowall: After reading in the newspaper that "Apes' co-star McDowall, who seemed fine when they were doing interviews for the movie's 30th anniversary, was ill, "We called several times to try to see him, but he was asleep every time and, of course, he died with frightening speed. And we've lost him. He was not only a wonderful actor but that rare commodity in Hollywood: He was a gentleman, a real gentleman."

McDowall would be delighted to be honored by the Academy
Bacall praises the late, great actor at Gest's big benefit
About that memorial service for Roddy McDowall at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theatre on Nov. 7: It's always been a policy of the Academy not to do memorials, but it is making an exception for Roddy because he'd been such a longtime Academy board member, representing the actor's branch, and because he'd just been elected president of the AMPAS' Academy Foundation. And wouldn't he have been pleased. Roddy was passionately devoted to the Academy and its causes despite the fact that -- even though he had many fine, fine performances in his 60-year career (his first film was made in England in 1938) -- he never received an Oscar nomination and was one of the few child stars of his era not to receive one of those miniature Oscar statues that were once given to juvenile players. Academy president Bob Rehme will officiate at the salute; the event is specifically intended for Roddy's longtime industry friends and Academy members.
Roddy was given a terrific tribute by Lauren Bacall at Sunday's fourth annual International Achievement in Arts Awards at the Beverly Hilton, which were produced by David Gest to benefit the Starkey Hearing Foundation and the Whitney Houston Foundation for Children. Bacall, looking like a million bucks, was the recipient of the night's main "legend" award for her own achievements, but the classy lady devoted her thank-you remarks "to my dear, departed friend, Roddy," praising his gallantry, capacity for friendships and pride in being an actor. Gest also dedicated the evening's hefty program book to McDowall.

It says "With Our Thanks" on the front and"What you did meant so much to us and we want you to know how much we appreciated it. " How does that sound? We could both send the cards to the same accress at the same time. What do you think? You're right, I think he'll probably get it one way or the other. He deserves some recognition, I'm sure he was a great source of comfort to Mr. Mc D.

Benita, I had to go back and read some old e-mails, but I found the one where Sue Munsey offered to go out and take a picture of our flowers. Bless her heart Maybe if we ask REALLY nice , she would order the flowers also. What do you think Sue?
I think the idea was to mail our donations on Nov.2 so that they would arrive a little before,or around the Nov. 7th Academy Memorial. Last but not least, I'm on vacation that week, so any tme to make the toast is good for me. Maybe I'll do it at 9p and midnight so no one will be left doing it alone!

As long as we are up, drinking and toasting, we might as well pop a Roddy movie into the vcr, just so we are not toasting thin air. Also, I hate to sound cynical, but how do we know if we send flowers the florist on the other end will be honest and actually do it and put a decent arrangement on Roddy's star? And for the Actors Fund...are the donations supposed to **ARRIVE** on Nov. 2nd or be **POSTMARKED** on the 2nd. If I mail mine on the 2nd it won't arrive until the 4th or 5th. Benita

Subject: Debbie Reynold's Bio tonite
Howdy folks, What do I see when I flick on the tv after a long day? Our friend Roddy, on a commercial for Debbie Reynold's Biography on A&E tonight. I didn't get the time on it, but its probably at 8 or 9pm. I don't know how much of our hero is in the bio, but it was a very pleasant to see his face as the first thing as I come home for the evening. I'm not a huge Debbie Reynold's fan, but let's be honest, I'd watch Roddy read the phone book if I got the chance!

Here is a silly little bit of trivia that you might get a smile out of. When I was young and madly in love with Roddy, ( not knowing his inclinations) I dreamed of getting married to him halfway between his birthday and mine. This year I got married on 9/12. A week later I privately said Happy Birthday to Roddy. Then it hit me. My birthday is 9/5 and his was 9/17. I got married on the 12th of September!!!! Quickly do the math. I swear that I had forgotten all about it!! When I told my husband he laughed and said that is why I pushed for the 12th!! It wasn't why, I just wanted to get married in Sept and it was the only Saturday open at our church. But isn't that funny? Or not. LOL

Janet, I mailed my card yesterday. I bought a sheet of those new stamps for breast cancer awareness as a portion of the procceds go to cancer research. They are 40 cents instead of 32 and the difference goes to research. The American Cancer Society had their own stamp at one time, but none were available. Anyway I used on of the breast cancer stamps. I included a note in the card. Regardless of the nature of their relationship, whether they were "just friends" or more he deserves our sympathy and acknowlegement of what he did. I work in the medical field aand have done a lot of home health for people who were termially ill, most of them have been cancer patients. And let me tell you, to stay by someone in a 24-7 situation and see how ill they are becoming and know there is nothing you can do is terribly draining; and as the person become more and more helpless it is a lot of work to attend to their every need, which is where I usually come in. If he was just a friend ! he was of a the kind of friend I'd want in my corner in a crises. And if he was Roddy's 'partener', he really needs to know that someone realizes he has suffered a loss and is in mourning. A lot of stright relationships don't survive a crises. Regardless of what everone's personal views are on gays, and whether or not Roddy may have been gay, I'd like to see everyone rise above their predjuices and let Dennis know we care....Benita

Well, I have my champange in the fridge chilling. I will be drinking my toast at Midnight on the 7th, which technically I guess makes it the 8th, so maybe just before Midnight. But as I said it will be close to 11:30 p.m. by the time I get home from work. By the time I grab a quick shower aand get dressed it will be just enough time to open the bottle. And I do think I will put a Roddy movie in the VCR. Probably "The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin." I taped it last night and it has been long enough since I've seen it that I've forgotten enough of it that it will be 'new again'. Maybe one of you who hasn't already sent Dennis a card can tell him about our plans, he might like to join in the toasting. And it would let him know we are a sincer group of people who are not falling to the "out of sight, out of mind" mentality. Benita

The "Bat Boy" was/is supposedly a real boy who was either abandoned or lost as a baby and lived in a cave in bats (i guess they raised him). In wishing for my dream man to arrive I always wished for 'a nice, sweet, sensitive English man'. Legend of hell house is great and i highly recommend it to all of you. Sadly i have some bad very sad news. We have not shot "Great Sex" yet and the news of roddy's death demolished me. He was one of the greats and probably the last of the truly great English Gentlemen in the highest and most wonderfull respect of the word. I never got the chance to meet him which just kills me but he was a very very dear friend of my friend Paul Chart, who wrote and was/ and hopfully IS going to direct "Great Sex". From what Paul has told me roddy was an angel on this earth and that is no exaggeration. He was a unique, extremely talented and gifted human being and any of you out there who dont know much about him should definitely look into it. He was ..... irreplaceable. We are hoping to shoot Great sex in the spring. And i have no doubt that the film will be dedicated to him. I am a firm supporter and beleiver in working with friends, and Paul and Amanda are two of the best friends ive ever had the unique pleasure of meeting. By the way Paul Chart Directed "American Perfekt"Wich (fingers crossed) will be released soon!

I'm a sci-fi freak. That's my favorite category. Try some of my favorite's: Leviathan, The Time Machine, Demolition Man, The Abyss, Stargate and of course, The Silencers. The Time Machine was written by H.G.Wells in the 1800's. It's amazing that in his time he wrote The War of The Worlds, Island Of Dr. Moreau and The Time Machine. He described things that were not yet invented. Things like airplanes and DNA testing. It's a trip!

Pamela,
If you like Malcolm McDowell you should see Tank Girl. It's another *B* title worth watching. It's an offbeat futuristic sci-fi staring Malcolm as the evil power driven bad guy in control of most of the worlds water. Tank Girl also stars Lori Petty as his pint sized advisory on a quest to stop him. Both characters are amazingly entertaining in this film. It's suspense, humorous, corky and action filled. My personal favorite part of the film however was the soundtrack. Tank Girl is based on an Australian comic strip. One warning though! This is not a film for kids! It contains language violence and sexual content! Lorraine

Subject: Halloween Movie
Well, we all seem to be set to toast our dearly departed friend on November 7th. I have a nice bottle of champagne set aside for the occasion, and a better occasion I can't think of. But, All Hallows Eve will be here next week and I can't think of a better way to celebrate than digging out "Legend of Hell House" and watching Roddy that evening. This has always been one of my favorite scary movies. I love psychological horror. Scare the hell out of me but don't use excessive stabbing of nubile teenagers to do it. I think "Legend" is of a dying breed of movie, and I am very happy that Roddy was a part of it. Anyway, that is how I will be spending my Halloween. Anybody else?

P.S.: I've got my donation ready to go to the Actors Home. I will send it so it will arrive just before the 7th. I am happy to send money for the flowers for his star, if we can just pin down who to send it to. And, I really, really want a couple of t-shirts, if that ever becomes a reality.

If Roddy could have been in a Star Wars film, I would have been in bliss, forever!
In fact, when the original Star Wars was released in 1977, I was 12 & believed, until I checked the end credits, that the voice of C3PO was Roddy M. He & Anthony Daniels do sound a lot alike!
I slept with a stuffed R2D2 doll that my parents got me for my 13 birthday off and on from that day forward, through college & occasionally even after that if I'd had a really bad day. Now he lives in my now-5 year old daughter's stuffed animal shelf & it is the one toy in her room that I get territorial about & occasionally remind her that he really is mine, but she can borrow him. I like seeing that on a few nights she has slept with him, too.
Anyone watched the Pinky and the Brain episode "Brain Noir" in which RM is the voice of Snowball? He gets credit for Snowball, but I could swear he is also the voice of one of Snowballs assistants who calls everybody "Gooney- Goon". This character does not get a voice credit. I have it on tape. Anyone else think it is him?

Good message, Benita! My heart goes out completely to Dennis. To lose someone that you care about that much so quickly must be terribly hard. I'm just glad that Roddy had someone like that there for him at the end, since Mr. McDowall had been in that position in his life many times for his friends.

I regret to say that I won't be able to send any donation. My son was in the hospital this past year with pancreatitis and we may end up having to pay out more money than we expected. It turns out that the insurance company is being sued for not paying claims, and as it turns out, we're some of the ones that this happened to.

Thanks, Tam,
John has been great, although he didn't know that much about Roddy until he met me, he listens to everything and says it seems to him that Roddy was a "real person." When I told him about the money Roddy sent out, he was especially impressed. The only thing that could make John better would be the English Accent. LOL
I am pretty sure our marriage is going to be OK, we both waited a long time to marry and we know that it is going to be hard work along with the joy of having someone right here. Not to say that all marriages are destined to be forever, but I like thinking that ours is.

Yeah, thanks Mel! I was sorta wondering about the production of that movie. I'm sad that they hadn't started yet. Some last footage would have been nice. Still, I'm happy that Roddy was busy right up until his death. (And Wow! What a glowing description of Roddy from that guy! I was just cheering as I read that!) I tried to find out more about Roddy's character in A Bug's Life from that film's various web sites, but no one I talked to really knew anything about the characters yet. So Mr. Soil is still a mystery for now, I guess.

Benita, I just sent my card off to Dennis Osborne yesterday alnog with a little note. I wish I would have thought of getting a Breast Cancer Awareness stamp and to mention our plan to toast Roddy on Nov 7th...sigh... But I did include the webpage and e-mail address for the Musgrave Foundation. Hopefully he'll get all our cards and connect, even if he doesn,t , at least he'll know Roddy's fans are a pretty nice group of people. Yes, I understand what you're saying. I'm an RN and frequently help to care for terminal patients, most of who have cancer. I HATE cancer! Anyway, I couldn't have said it any better than you did.
Paul, I live in Conway, Pa. , about 30-35 miles north of Pittsburgh. I've heard of Farrell! I think my high school used to play them in football. I'm orginally from Beaver Falls, Pa,(it's a real place- honest). Best known for being Joe Namath's hometown and the first place to make corrugated cardboard. Now you see why Joe left. Wow- it's amazing how many of us are from the same area! But I think this was mentioned before.... You are now entering the Twilight Zone
